December is one of the best months to visit Lyon.
The city offers more events and activities than ever, all this without the crowds of tourists that fill European cities in summer (except for the Festival of Lights of course).

And don’t worry, it’s uncommon for the temperature in Lyon to drop below zero degrees!

Merry Christmas from the Lyon UA team!

Imagine Picasso

During the whole month of December and until the 19th of January, la Sucrière welcomes this immersive exhibition (a world premiere before travelling to New York) created by Lyonnais Annabelle Mauguer and Julian Barone, made in collaboration with art historian Androula Michael and architect Rudy Riccioti.

Well, more than an exhibition, it’s an experience… imagine taking a walk at the heart of large images and discovering 200 paintings of Picasso through “Total Images”.

This artistic approach will plunge you in the depth of works painted by the Spanish artist so you can explore every single detail of them. His most famous canvases (and some lesser-known paintings extracted from private collections) will leave their frames to take up more space. And it’s also a fun and artistic experience accessible to all… there will be special booklets and signs with simple explanations adapted to the young audience.

In short, Imagine Picasso will make you discover some of Picasso’s paintings and will give you a new perspective of the ones you already knew!

• When: until the 19th of January
• How much: Adults 12.90€, Children (5-18 years): 9€. Reduced price with the Lyon City Card.

Festival of Lights

It doesn’t need any presentation. The Festival of Lights is the most significant event in Lyon. It attracts about 4 million visitors every year to the streets of the city, which are transformed for the occasion into a gigantic fresco of colours. Spectacular scripts are projected on the facades of the most famous buildings. Night-birds will be dazzled thanks to the talent of the Lyonnais and international lighting engineers.
Learn more about the festival’s history in our blog:
Also called the “Illuminations”, this festival has gathered the whole city together for more than 160 years!
Today the festival shows Lyon in its best possible way, illuminating its amazing buildings for 4 evenings. Lyon’s prettiest façades become the backdrop for a gigantic, magical light (and sound) installations thanks to the artist’s creations (which are new and exported around the world afterwards).
From the little candles to loads of shows that light up the city, the Fête des Lumière is THE highlight for those who want to discover this beautiful town. A spectacle to which the citizens of Lyon are tremendously attached and the event that represents Lyon the most.*
